Car booster seats law
New law change for car booster seats were put into place on 1st March 2017. So what is the car booster seats law from 1st March 2017 all about.
What is was the law before 1st March 2017
ALL CHILDREN, when travelling in a car up to the age of 12 years old or up to 135cm tall MUST use a car seat. Current rules state that children as young as 3 or 15kg may use a backless booster seat.
What is the new law
- You CANNOT use backless booster seats for children aged 12 years old and under or if they are under 135cm tall.
- You ARE allowed to use backless booster seats for children aged 12 years old and over or if they are over 135cm tall) from 1st March 2017.
Do I need a buy a new high backed booster car seat?
Yes, if your child is under 12 years old and/or under 135cm tall. If you already own one, then you do not need to purchase a brand new one. It is the law that has changed, not the actual product(s).
