What is the homeless charity Shelter
Shelter is a housing and homeless charity that believes everyone should have a home. So what is the homeless charity Shelter?
The charity has two sites, both of which help millions of people struggling with housing issues.
The sites offer advice on:
- Emergency housing from the council
- B&B’s for homeless people
- Nightstop Schemes for 16 to 25-year-olds
- Women’s refuges
- Staying with friends
Families are made homeless every four minutes which constitutes a housing emergency. Shelter are fighting to help those in need. Founded in December 1966, its launch coincided with an increased need for housing for homeless persons. Their vision is to establish one organisation that speaks for the millions of homeless people. They have achieved landmark changes in Law such as the introduction of the TDS (Tenancy Deposit Scheme) and a groundbreaking commitment in Scotland that from 2012, everyone will have the right to a home.
