Suspend Council Tax Payments until Covid-19 is no longer a threat to our society
The Government are not addressing the concerns of the thousands of people unable to currently afford Council Tax, utilities and other bills that still need to be paid during the current covid19 global situation.
Please sign this petition to ask the Government to give us more help with this by scrapping council tax payments until the pandemic is no longer a threat to our society.
This global situation is affecting all things home right now which is at the heart of everything I do.
We need your support now to encourage changes that can be made to help everyone.
Only the vulnerable are being offered relief but it is not clear who they are classing as most vulnerable.
Most households will still have to keep paying council tax as normal at the moment, during the Covid-19 outbreak.
If you are struggling to pay your council tax, we want to make you aware of the support available and how you can find the help you if you have been affected.
In the first instance, you should contact your own Local Authority.
Some Local Authorities are advising:
You should ensure that you have claimed all of the benefits that you are entitled to. For working-age families, this is Universal Credit from the Department for Work and Pensions and Council Tax Support from the council.
If you are struggling, the best way to get in touch with your Local Authority is to send an email so that they can ensure that you are getting all of the support you are entitled to and you have a record of what you have submitted.
Some are offering special payment plans so that the council tax due for 2020/21 is split over nine months, from July 2020 to March 2021, meaning that in some cases you will not have to pay anything until July.
They are also looking at arrears so that they can consider everything you owe to avoid any extra costs or charges.
We are all in this together.
